26 Foods That Are Bad for Your Heart

A worrying statistic, courtesy of the Center for Disease Control, states that every 37 seconds an American life is lost due to heart disease. Equally concerning is that this disease is the leading cause of death is the U.S. today.

The FDA recommends that we consume less than 10 percent of our daily calories from added sugar. But for many, that’s easier said than done.

Whether from a lapse in willpower or a lack of understanding exactly what’s contained in the foods we eat, many of us consume more than the recommended amount, increasing the risk to our hearts as well as our overall health.

And it’s not just sugar that poses a risk to the temple that is our bodies, sodium can also dissolve the foundations on which our well being is built.

The overconsumption of salt can lead to high blood pressure which in turn can cause the arteries to harden and narrow, increasing the risk of heart disease.

Last but certainly not least is high saturated fats. Research has proven that eating foods containing them can significantly raise your LDL or Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, more commonly known by the cheerful moniker ‘bad cholesterol’.

The overconsumption of sugar, salt, and saturated fat can elevate your risk of heart disease which could then lead to a heart attack.
It’s not all doom and gloom however as there are ways to combat such alarming statistics, the first being a change to a more healthy, low-risk diet.
