Which Is Healthier: Artificial Sweetener or Sugar?

This question has been on everybody’s minds for the past couple of years. Artificial sweeteners appeared as a solution for those who like sweet beverages or food, but want to avoid the well-known sugar crushes.

Still, artificial sweeteners are called that way for a reason: they’re artificial. So what do you choose? A sweetener that has zero calories, but may contain harmful chemicals, or natural sugar that may damage your blood sugar levels?

As studies have shown, the average American adult consumes about 22 teaspoons of sugar every single day – while a teenager gets up to 34 teaspoons daily. In order to get an idea on how much that is, just think about eating that amount of sugar in its raw form.

Furthermore, let’s consider the fact that artificial sweeteners are 200 to 600 times sweeter than regular sugar. While this doesn’t damage your blood sugar levels that much in time, it does affect your taste buds which stimulate certain hormone production, thus slowing down your metabolism.

Let’s dive in with some comparison. Both artificial sweeteners are sugar cause addiction. Therefore, even if you relax thinking that the first option can’t do nothing to you, it can end up controlling your diet. Our best advice is to be careful either way because maintaining the right diet is all about balance.

Overall, both of these options are okay as long as they are consumed moderately. Just like any other food, it’s all about giving your body little bits of everything it needs so you can be healthy and happy!
